Unique sound, punchy songwriting and completely defined by Sue Tompkin’s fantastic sing-speak.
American primitive fingerpicking with tons of character.
A callback to brilliant psychedelic pop complete with all the fixings.
What starts out as traditional noise rock ends as something incredibly different. Everything’s capped by cool vocals and a rapidly changing soundscape.
Simple, concrete songwriting that stays with you far longer than you would think.
Haunting ambient jazz that excels in its simulated distance from the listener.
Some of the punchiest funk I’ve heard in ages.
The psychedelic equivalent to a warm blanket.
Greasy, ugly and full of a demonic southern spirit. An absolute must for fans of 90’s freak rock, of any flavor.
Female vocals backed by tight production and lush instrumentation, ghostly choirs and all.
The byproduct of a Swedish supergroup led by Amanda Matsson’s stellar vocals and songwriting that channels the neon drenched soul of mid eighties pop.
Forgotten, melancholy folk with a mid seventies sensibility and a heart of gold.
Based on Ernest Shackleton’s doomed ship, Endurance is an ambient recreation of the bitter voyage, warts and all. Incredibly beautiful and one of the most patient and rewarding listens I’ve found recently.
A debut album that mixes Tom Yorke-y inspiration with explosive walls of sound. Includes one of the absolute best album closers I’ve ever heard. A must listen.
Some creepy, unsettling songwriting stuck in a bright colored wrapper capped by VanGaalen’s distinct vocals.
A slightly more colorful expansion on the band’s graveyard folk songwriting with a distinct western tilt.
Sleazy sounding, subterranean garage rock that feels like a three day bender.
