What Is The Backlist?
I’ve spent the last few years doing more collecting of music than actually listening to it. Obsessively collecting is Step One of a three step system to build a bloated and eclectic library.
Step Two and Step Three are the same as Step One.
This is simply an effort to mine through and clean up that endless back-list. Maybe I’ll come out of this wiser, more organized, more cultured. Maybe I’ll have a better grasp on what constitutes a solid album. Maybe I won’t go crazy.
There’s a lot of excitement in discovery, of finding that album again that you lost ten years ago or stumbling on a sound that you never knew existed. That’s what the goal is here.
What Kind Of Music Will I Find Here?
Expect anything from any number of genres. I’m a synth junkie and I love garage and psychedelic rock, so there might be a tiny amount of disproportion in some areas. But I don’t discriminate. Neither should you.
Who Are You Then?
My name’s Mike and I’m a born and bred Wisconsin native. I can speak one language and I own a car that can get up to almost seventy miles per hour with the wind at its back.
I’m a pretty rabid consumer of music, but I’m a far flung outsider when it comes to actually being part of the scene. I’m not a critic or a picky connoisseur or someone great at drawing interesting parallels between tracks and artists. I’m just here to sift, to dig, and maybe find a new favorite album or a third favorite album. I don’t know. I’m not big on ranking.
Hey, That’s My Band You’re Talking About…
On top of bigger and more popular releases and stuff that a lot of people have heard, I often like to scour Bandcamp to chip away at some of the lesser known material out there. I try to credit and link sources as well as I can which includes album art sources, the occasional Youtube video, Last.fm pages, Bandcamp pages and more.
If you’re affiliated with any band or artist mentioned in any of these posts and take issue with the integration or inclusion of any of these media sources, please shoot me a note via the email address listed in the sidebar and I’ll be more than happy to remedy things.
